Coffey's book is probably the most comprehensive compilations of the military service records of the 1785 men who enlisted in the confederate army in Lafayette County, Mississippi. Not all of these men lived in Lafayette County. The abundance of leaders in the county produced fourteen companies of confederate soldiers. Preceding the listing of the names and associated records of each company, there is a list of the company officers. In addition, there is a short history of each company describing where they were located at various times during the war and their battles.
